There are approximately 10,000 onsite sewage systems in the Core
Area of the Capital Regional District (CRD), with a number of new
installations taking place every year. These systems can provide effective,
long-term wastewater treatment if working properly. Regular maintenance
has a significant impact on how well your system works and how long
it lasts. If a system fails, there can be damage to the environment,
risk to health of your family, and significant repair costs.
The recently-adopted Bylaw 3479 requires owners with onsite package
treatment plants (Type 2 and Type 3 systems) in Colwood, Langford,
Saanich &View Royal to maintain their system according to the
maintenance plan for the system and to ensure it is maintained by
an authorized person at least once per calendar year. Records of this
maintenance must be retained by owners, with a copy to be provided
to the CRD.
This program takes effect immediately and owners must provide the
CRD, by December 31, 2009, with proof of the maintenance undertaken.
The
Treatment Process
Wastewater enters the treatment plant through the inlet, and then
the aeration process begins. Bacterial colonies grow very rapidly,
breaking down the wastewater. This treated effluent then enters the
conical clarification chamber.
This device causes remaining solids to drop back into aeration chamber,
extending the treatment process. The outlet tee allows only treated
effluent to exit to the disposal system, and restricts any remaining
solids from leaving.
Features & Benefits
(1) Linear air compressor - Very quiet and conveniently
located in location of your choice.
(2) Alarm Panel - Notifies owner of unacceptable
air pressure changes, or high level situations.
(3) Aerobic Treatment Chamber - Mixes and digests
effluent without any moving parts to adjust or maintain.
(4) Coarse Bubble Diffusers - No need to service
or clean (EVER)
(5) Settling Chamber - Allows treated effluent to
settle out, or re-enter treatment process without mechanical devices.
(6) Outlet Tee - As additional wastewater enters
system, clarified effluent exits plant, and enters disposal system.
(7) Access Lid @ Grade - No unsightly access hatches
to obscure landscaping
(8) High Level Float Switch - Notifies alarm panel
of any abnormal conditions in treatment plant.
